Gilbert and Sullivan - the Glorious Composers of England

Last night a friend of mine gave a concert with her choir. Beforehand, she had told me that the music would be by Gilbert and Sullivan, and we both thought that it would not be a very interesting concert, as English classical music tends to be very tender and mellow.
But how wrong were we!
The concert turned out to be a brilliant show case of Gilbert and Sullivan's operas, which are all comic shows that have solo singers as characters and the choir and a pianist provide the soloists with a beautiful packing track. Each piece was a funny and quirky showcase with characters such as half-fairy pirates, men from Japan wanting to marry milk ladies and flirting being a crime in the town of Tii-too.
It was such a brilliant show for a Saturday night that I thoroughly recommend anyone going to see one for themselves and you are guaranteed to leave the venue full of laughter and memories of beautiful music!
